Coventry
Parade 2011
This local VMCC event was run for the 56th time
on Sunday 14th August. The
Start/Finish was at
Coombe
Country
Park
and lots of Coventry VOC members were there to either watch or take part in the
event. The
Coventry
Transport
Museum
provides an old bus, “Mabel”, for the signing on point and the Lord Mayor
of
Coventry
flags the participants away at the start. The
morning run was 35 miles to the lunch stop. There
food was available if pre-booked and the pleasant surroundings and fine weather
had everyone relaxed and in no rush to complete the 15 mile afternoon route back
to the finish. There was also a
shorter route totalling 45 miles as an option for the oldest machines.
There were five Vincent machines taking part, three ridden by section
members. Rob and Valerie S were on
their “D”, Dave S on his self guiding Comet (you’ll have to ask Dave
yourself for an explanation) and Gloria and Eddy G on their Rapide.
The section figured in the awards too as Judith and John L in their BSA
three-wheeler got a nice trophy to take home. The route was very pleasant and Gloria and I served as
pathfinders for Alan B on his sprightly 350 model 8 Sunbeam and Don A.
Don rode his 350 Morini rather than the ’26 model 80 HRD he entered as
the HRD requires some attention to the gear box.
A relaxed but well run event and this year, a nice touch, you got a cake,
a drink and a gift of a can of service spray when you signed off at the finish.
Valerie sent me a few pictures that you can see below. Eddy.
