Doug Squires Charity Cycle Ride Across America. A sponsored ride or walk, run or ride is a popular way to raise money for
charity. Some of these sponsored challenges are relatively modest while
others take on quite formidable proportions. Bill "Cometeer"
Norton recently came over from the USA to test his shoe leather walking
from John O' Groats to Land's End. Coventry Section's Doug Squires made
the journey the other way across the Atlantic to take part in a charity cycle
ride. Starting from Los Angeles on the West coast he passed through 15
states before finishing on the East coast in Boston. Doug pedalled a total of 3440 miles and climbed 143,000
feet overall which represents 26 miles just in elevation change! Temperatures were in the high 80's - mid 90's which meant you needed lots of fluids like Gatorade, especially in the dessert. I have include a map below of the route that Doug rode across America.
When Doug contacted me after his return he had just been out for a ride on his
Rapide. He said it made a nice change from having to push the pedals
round. I'll bet!
