Early Cycling Talk
The May 22nd meeting at Berkswell was a talk on early cycling by
Tony Pickering and Stuart Warburton, two of the leading lights in the Desford
Pedallers group.
The talk was presented very professionally with projected images and two
"ordinary" cycles in the hall to help illustrate the details.
Starting with who really invented the bicycle we saw the development of the man
powered two wheeler and how big a part Coventry played in the story.
Stuart did most of the talking with Tony adding occasional facts. There
was also a little gentle and humorous banter between the pair when they didn't
entirely agree on the veracity of things. The result was both informative
and entertaining.
When the talk had finished and the chairs were cleared Tony actually gave a
demonstration of mounting and dismounting an ordinary. This was no mean
feat in the confines of the reading rooms.
Thanks to all involved for a very good talk. Eddy
