East Mids Section New Year's Day Meet.

Unless you have been lucky enough recently to fly to somewhere warm you will have endured some severely cold weather.  Our youngest daughter lives in the Lake District and the snow was so bad up there that for a few days she was unable to get out of her village to get to work.  When conditions improved we were able to journey North to pay her a visit and see in the New Year.  This meant that I missed a ride to the E. Midland section for their regular New Year's day meeting.   Chris C was able to go and has kindly sent the following.

"After the coldest December on record and constant layers of snow we were missing our riding, so New Year's day came as a welcome relief at a balmy 5 degrees and moderate rain. It proved too tempting for Dave D. and myself so we joined the ever popular East Midland 's Cobweb run at the Britannia, Kegworth. By 12.30 it was almost standing room only but lots of EMS stalwarts were in place. Bob and Rita Stafford, Brian and Alice Walker, Andrew and Kim and Ken and Marg Colver.  Marg was in charge of the free raffle which is always a feature of this event with almost everyone goes home with a prize, even if it is a used sidecar sprocket(!)  Plenty of good food and company was on hand to greet 2011 with 3 Vincents including Dave's Rapide, a lovely rigid MAC Velo and about six more assorted bikes.  There were visitors from further afield such as East Lancashire section.  We learned later that come mid January the Britannia Inn will be flattened so a new venue will be needed next year.  Good to be back on a bike though despite having to spend as long cleaning it the next day !"

Let us hope that the what already seems like a long cold winter soon gives way to better things so that we can all look forward to getting out and about and enjoying our bikes. Eddy
