February Update

Berkswell club night attendance had been a bit light during the “artic” spell  but we had a good turn out for the last club night in January when Tony Harris came along to entertain us.  Tony, who makes the new BT-H magnetos, gave us an illustrated talk on the “V” twin engines he has built.  We saw his first “V” twin engine, installed in a Featherbed frame when he rode it to a club night last year.  That first engine used Ariel barrels and heads.  The second engine uses his own aluminium barrels and Norton Model 50 heads.  Tony brought along a complete mark 2 engine, the crank case patterns and some of special tools he had to make to help construction.  Barry Bassett used his projector to show photographs that Tony had taken during the various stages of construction.  It is very impressive and just goes to show what a man on a mission can do when he gets an idea.  (Photograph below.)

Section Dinner

On January 30th we had our section dinner at the Honiley Court Hotel.  A genial group of people sat down for our meal at three tables in a private room.  It is always nice to get together with friends and talk bikes or whatever but this evening was a bit special.  Two of our party were the retiring section organiser Ian Alexander and his wife Cathy.  The committee and section had contributed to a gift for Ian to commemorate him holding the organiser's position for 25 years.  Ian was presented with a very nice watch that he had (not so secretly) coveted for some time and Cathy got a large bouquet of flowers.  There was also something that the whole family can enjoy, a framed caricature of Ian and family on their Vincent outfit.  Thanks to John Benson for getting the caricature commissioned and nicely framed.
