March 2009 Update
I haven't updated the website for a while so I thought I'd write up
a few of the things that I have been able to attend. The February 13th club night
was a real treat. Barry brought along his new laptop and high tech
projector to show us some of his railway pictures. Taken at a time when
the steam powered side of the railway system was being shunted towards the scrap yard
these photographs are a fine reminder of a golden if rather sooty age.
Chris C and myself supplied a few more photographs on memory sticks to provide
some motor cycle variety before George brought on his good old fashioned, low
tech, slide projector. George showed us some very old slides that he had
taken and the story to go with the slides and the cameras they were taken with
was very interesting.
Tony R organised a wrinkly lunch at The Bull at Corley Moor where we had a good
attendance and good food.
The March wrinkly lunch was organised by Don at The Black Horse, Sheepy
Magna. Although it was billed as just a lunch and not a run, Chris C had
the fine idea to have a run out for a coffee first if the weather was not too
bad. Six of us on five bikes, all "V" twins, two of them Vincent's,
rendezvoused at the garden centre near Ashbourne. After we'd finished our
drinks Chris led us to Sheepy Magna by a good rural route where there were three
more bikes and a total of fourteen souls sat down for lunch.
A charity auction was held at the Friday 20th meeting where master autioneer Ian
skillfully prised open many partially seized wallets to the tune of £114.
Doug S is going to do a charity cycle ride and the proceeds of the auction will
be added to what he raises.
Coming Soon: In April we have George's Great Egg Race at Berkswell
on the 17th we have the first of the wrinkly runs to the Bentley Drivers at
Wroxton. More details from George.
Chris C has sent me a really fine period photograph by Barry Howell an ex COVOC
member who rode his Vincent round the world.....
He's riding the Norvin in 1962 at Church Lawford. Time--11.01secs. The
others are Allan Nash and Pat O'Keefe.
I've put the photograph on the "Bygones"
page. <Back |
