Morgan Factory Visit.

The majority of our group started the run from Berkswell with some electing to join us at the Mappleborough Green coffee stop.  There was certainly a stop but there was no coffee.  We visited the café twice when planning the route and got the proprietors to put us down in their calendar with our contact detail.  Despite that they were closed!  We carried on and rode to the lunch stop at a pub about 5 miles from Malvern where 26 of us sat down for a meal.  After the meal we just had a short ride to get to the factory for 2.00pm.  There we had a two hour guided tour starting with an entertaining and informative short film.  The film gave some background information on the Morgan company and their history.  On the factory tour we saw that a lot of the car is still made in quite traditional ways with men cutting out sheets of aluminium and forming body panels with rollers and hand tools.  The polished wooden dashboard is the work of one man and is a thing of great beauty.  A lot of wood is still used in the construction of their traditional models and it was also good to see that in one department there were several young men learning and using the old skills.  The top of the range Aero actually uses some very sophisticated technology in its construction so Morgan seem to have a blend of old and new that keeps them in business.  We enjoyed good weather on the trip to Malvern but the heavens opened as we prepared for our return journey.  Some of us waited for a while for the rain to ease.  The shower was localised and after only a few miles we were on dry roads again.  Thanks to all who took part in this trip and I hope you found it as interesting and enjoyable as I did.
Eddy.
