Navigation Trial 2009

Dave D organised the navigation trial this year and he made a superb job and even provided some lovely weather.  The event started from your favourite VOC meeting place in the W. Midlands, the reading rooms at Berkswell where Dave D handed out his list of things to find as proof of having visited the stated places in the counties of Leicester, Northampton and Warwick.  These places were Ravensthorpe, Crick, Pitsford, Draycote, Sywell, Saddington, Leire, Naseby and Brinklow.  The lunch stop was at The Horseshoe at Sywell and the finish at The Bull's Head, Brinklow.  These places gave the entrants the opportunity to plan routes that showed off the true beauty of our countryside.  Villages like Brixworth and Moulton were at their best with the sunshine highlighting the golden yellow stone of the older buildings.
Moulton has some narrow streets and a one way system winds a long and tortuous way through the village. There is a much shorter way through the village by ignoring the one way system.  (Obviously nobody would try to take this shorter but naughty route, .......... especially after the police stopped him and turned him around. )
Don and Marion had lunch with us at The Horseshoe.  They made an afternoon of it by also joining us at the finish in Brinklow where the moment of reckoning came as Dave D marked the question sheets and calculated the miles covered.
The victor on a Vincent machine was Dave S who covered 96 miles on his Comet and scored 6 out of  7 on the question sheet.  John T recorded 100 miles and scored 5½ points to get the non-Vincent motorcycle award.
Many thanks to Dave D for a very enjoyable day.  Dave described it admirably when he said that it was all about a bunch of mates getting out into the countryside on their bikes.
