NEC Classic Car Show

This show is a well established and large show where some very exclusive and rare examples of classic cars can be seen.  The addition of a display of classic bikes is relatively new and this year the bikes were in a hall of their own.

It is 60 years since Rollie Free did his famous 1948 ride in his bathing trunks at Bonneville salt flats to establish a record of over 150 mph on a Vincent.  Our stand celebrated this by having a superb background painting of Earl's Court by Tony Roberts and a fine display of six Vincent machines made in 1948 including John Kinley's Lightning.

The stand was staffed by VOC members and it was enjoyable talking to other members and the general public who showed much interest in the display.  I spoke to several people who said that they had owned a Vincent in the past and seeing one again brought back fond memories.  The prices shown on the bikes were the 1948 prices.  A "B" Rapide was £317-10s-0d and a Lightning £508-0s-0d.  I'll have one of each please.  Where do I pay?

A few photographs below of the VOC stand, three of which Chris C. kindly passed to me.  Many thanks to all who helped put the stand together and man it over the three days of the show.  Eddy
