Run to E. Midlands Section Meeting

There was an art exhibition at the Reading Rooms on Friday, September 27th so we thought we would have a run over to The King's Head, Sutton Bonington to share an evening with the E. Mids. section.  I arranged to meet at the Merevale lay-by for anyone wanting to ride  there in a group.  The group was small and at the 7.15pm departure time there was only Martin F on his "B" twin, Tony R on his BMW and Gloria and myself on our Rapide.  Tony reported that he was suffering from a bit of a misfire on his fuel injected BMW K100 four.  He had fitted a new fuel filter but this didn't appear to have cured the misfire.  We had steady ride along mostly empty roads, only encountering a little traffic on a couple of miles of the A42 that we used to by-pass Ashby-de-la- Zouch.  En route we encountered Ian J who was making his way there in his car.  We got to within a couple of miles of Sutton Bonington and Martin disappeared!  It transpired that he had spotted an Esso garage as we crossed the A6 and was lured away to top up his petrol tank.  He arrived a little later with a full tank.  Bob S, the Series "A" supremo and wife Rita arrived in the car park just after us and more E. Mids. members started to arrive.  We chatted in the far end of the bar and after a while I spotted that Dave D and Doug S had arrived on their bikes and had found some space at the other end of the room.  As I was saying hello to them Mick P came in having arrived on his Ducati.  A little later we went out into the car park to look at the bikes on what was a very nice evening.  I retraced my route on the return trip modifying it to use a bit more A444 rather than the smaller roads to give an easier run back in the dark.  Tony  turned off the A444 at Fenny Drayton while we carried onto the A5 and Hinckley.  When I saw Tony on the following Wednesday he said that the BMW had run perfectly on the way home without any misfire.  Maybe it liked the slightly cooler night air.
Eddy.
