Sonia Young Talk
Sonia Young gave us an illustrated talk on Friday 16th about
her epic ride for charity. She rode over 3681 miles to Russia and back on
her 2300cc Triumph Rocket 3 Trike, built by Mark Grinnall. She and her
companions visited 16 countries in 18 days in July 2008.
The countries
visited were France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovakia,
Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Finland,
Sweden, Denmark and back to England. On the trip they attended two Triumph
Owners Club rallies. Sonia's companions on the trip rode Triumph Tridents,
not modern Hinckley built examples but those with a Meriden lineage.
Starting from the midlands they used the channel tunnel to get to France and
then travelled across Europe with the roads and petrol quality becoming
extremely bad once they reached Poland. Poland seemed to be almost a
continuous series of road works. In Russia some of the roads were very bad
with loose surfaces making normal speeds impossible as they dodged
potholes. Some of her pictures showed the dents in her wheel rims!
In Russia she was stopped by the police who supplemented their pay by fining her
for
an imaginary offence! They were glad to get out of Russia and back to
"civilisation".
A raffle was held at the talk and the proceeds went to Sonia's chosen charity, Breast
Cancer Care. Thank you Sonia for an interesting evening.
